Badlapur sexual assault: Shinde’s mother refutes Thane cops’ version of encounter killing
“My son feared Diwali crackers. It is unbelievable that he took a gun and shot some rounds,” said Alka Shinde in an interview
Mumbai: Alka Shinde, mother of suspect Akshay Shinde in the Badlapur sexual assault case, which was allegedly killed in an encounter on Monday evening, has refuted claims made by Thane police regarding the sequence of events that led to his death.
She said in an interview that, “I met Akshay around 4.30 pm in Taloja jail on Monday. I had been waiting to see him since morning but finally got a chance to talk to him for 15 minutes. He told me that the charge sheet had been filed in his case and asked if I was trying to get him out of jail. He said that when I visited him last Monday, he had been beaten up by the police officials.”.
She said, “This is pre-planned. This seems to be carried out under some pressure from political leaders.”
Alka Shinde didn’t believe the police version of events and said, “My son was afraid of Diwali crackers. It is unbelievable that he took a gun and fired a few rounds. As a mother, I saw the fear in his eyes because of fireworks. I used to drop him to school or office during Diwali because he had a frightful fear of the noise.”
She further said, “He badly wished to have food prepared by me and until then wanted me to send him some money for purchasing food from the jail canteen”.
Reiterating her skepticism over the charges slapped on her son, Alka Shinde said, “During my visits to jail, I always asked him if he committed the crime. He said no. Of course, even if he had committed it, the government and police should have faith in their own investigation and the courage to handle this case fairly. Fair punishment, even if the death penalty, would have been justified. This is a bigger crime than that and my son didn’t even get a chance to fight his case.”
The sheer motives and huge implications behind the case shocked her. “What happened to the big trustees of the school? Why can’t they be in police custody, because of money? She replied.
Alka Shinde concluded with a promise for seeking justice: “Because police don’t trust their investigation, they have done this crime. Akshay cannot do this, and I will fight for justice for him”.
